Tideway is delivering the Thames Tideway Tunnel, a new 25km sewer tunnel currently under construction which, when completed in 2023, will protect the River Thames from sewage pollution.
Tideway is the trading name of Bazalgette Tunnel Limited (BTL). BTL was set up to finance, build, maintain and operate the Thames Tideway Tunnel.
Tideway is owned by a consortium of investors that comprises Allianz, Amber Infrastructure, Dalmore Capital and DIF. More than two million UK pensioners have an indirect investment in the Thames Tideway Tunnel through UK pension funds managed by the investment consortium.
Tideway employs more than 400 highly experienced professionals to deliver the project, together with its delivery partners.
The Eastern section of the tunnel is 7.2m ID and will be constructed from a drive shaft at Chambers Wharf in Bermondsey to Abbey Mills, near the Olympic Stadium in Stratford. It will involve tunnelling through 5.5 km of the Seaford Chalk Formation at depths of up to 60 m. An additional 5m ID connection tunnel will extend beneath the Rotherhithe Peninsula for 5 km, to Greenwich, passing through Seaford and Lewes Nodular Chalk formations.
Shaft construction at Chambers Wharf and Greenwich is well advanced and tunnelling on this section is due to begin in early 2019.
